"Mammoth sells all 4 resorts to investor group" – it's not often that I get to perpetuate the latest rumor, but it did get your attention. Thanks to our friends at the local BB paper, this storyline could not be vetted, so it never made headlines, yet several of you took the bait. This idea grew from the announcement that Dave Likins was promoted to a position with Mammoth to look for the next acquisition, so he will be leaving us as President of BBMR on Nov 1. He is however, looking for the "next BBMR" to acquire for Mammoth, to join the 4 resorts they currently operate.
Our On-the-Hill Refresher at Bear Mtn is fast approaching. Here are a couple of items you need to know in advance.
With the first OEC refresher this weekend in Claremont, please confirm with the attached that you have complied with the new process this year regarding OEC refreshers. Remember, if you don't follow these new and specific requirements BEFORE the refresher, you will be turned away. At last check, Doug was reporting fewer than 20 patrollers registered for our Refresher. Save yourself the frustration and take the time to read through the attached checklist now – if you get turned away, you only have the "person in the mirror" to blame.
As all Big Bear Ski Patrol staff will be patrolling at both Snow Summit & Bear Mtn this season, we will be reprogramming your radios with the appropriate frequencies for both mountains on 10/22 at our OTH Refresher. Two things you need to do in ADVANCE – 1) Complete the required radio agreement so we can secure the software/hardware to reprogram your model radio and 2) bring it with you to Bear Mtn on 10/22. This will be done at BBMR's expense at the OTH, but after that, it will be your responsibility and cost to do it, so please take advantage of this one-time opportunity. Complete, sign and scan the attached form today – send back to me. **you do not need to fill out the "Frequency" section on the form and don't worry about a "witness" signature. Need no later than 10/10.
PLANNING FOR OTH
Very important note for those traveling to Big Bear in October, including our 10/22-23 Refresher weekend – Highway 18 from Snow Valley to BB Dam will have a FULL closure through 10/21 until 4pm each weekday. There is also midweek lane closures below Snow Valley that require one-way traffic, so Hwy 18 & 330 are poor options in October.
We will be using Shiftboard for our scheduling and sign-in/sign-out process this season at both mountains. The schedule will open up on 10/31 and allow you to select any open weekend. You will select the weekend you want, but the location will be determined based on staffing needs and transition training plans. The dates you select will be confirmed as you enter them, and the location where you will patrol will be confirmed to all patrollers/hill safety by 11/30. More details on this will be discussed during a breakout at the OTH, so please hold your questions.
If you are not planning to join us for our Awards Banquet on Saturday night, 10/22, please send me an email indicating that you will not be attending. We need to confirm a final food count and we'd prefer not to waste patrol funds if you are not going to be there to join us. This year's banquet will be at the Big Bear Elks Lodge at the top of the village and give us a chance to meet "100 or so new patrol friends". Look forward to meeting those of you I only know by name.
I want to thank the Board and all of those working hard behind the scenes to get Big Bear Ski Patrol ready to present to our member patrollers on 10/22. I think most of you will like what you see…..
